65th Central Washington Artists Exhibition

November 14 – December 12, 2020

Celebrating its 65th year at the Larson Gallery, the Central Washington Artists’ Exhibition showcases the most current and innovative artwork being produced in this region. The juror for this exhibition is Lauren Lessing.

Lauren Lessing is the director of the University of Iowa Stanley Museum of Art. Lessing is an art historian and educator with more than 25 years of experience working in museums, including the Art Institute of Chicago and the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City. Lessing holds a Bachelor of Arts in fine art from Earlham College, as well as a Master of Library Science degree, an MA in history of art, and a PhD in history of art from Indiana University in Bloomington. She serves on the curatorial advisory panel of the Gund Gallery at Kenyon College and on the editorial board of the journal Panorama.

Víctor Ospina

February 23 – April 10 2021

“Abstraction, geometric figures, experimentation, simplicity, creation, aesthetics, and art inspires me. Because with art I can create, I can solve situations intelligently and I can admire the beauty of the universe; With art, I can be the inspiration for others.”

The artwork of Victor Ospina, from Armenia, Columbia, was born from the interest of involving different study subjects from the social sciences such as sociology, history, anthropology, with the plastic arts. Consequently, social issues such as violence in Colombia, Post-truth, the voices of the silenced and victims of war as the central axis of my work that invites the viewer to reflect on our society, to be inspired and to be part of the change for a better country.

Who’s Minding the Gallery?

February 23 – May 22 2021

Since 1949, many of the curators of the Larson Gallery have also been artists. This exhibit will introduce you to the previous curators of the Larson Gallery and some of their work.

MUSICA!

April 20 – May 22, 2021

Pablo Picasso said, “To draw, you must close your eyes and sing.” This exhibition explores all the wonderful ways in which music can serve as inspiration for the creative process. An exhibit from SAQA (Studio Art Quilt Associates).

DoVA Student & Faculty (online)

June 10 – July 2, 2021

This annual exhibition presents the artwork, created within the last two years by Department of Visual Art (DoVA) students. This year the student and faculty exhibition will be held online at larsongallery.org. Student work is chosen from Spring and Fall quarters of 2019, Winter quarter of 2020, Spring and Fall quarters of 2020, and Winter quarter of 2021 at Yakima Valley College. Classes taught by John Bissonette, Rachel Dorn, Chris Otten, and Meghan Flynn include ceramics, painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, and design. A large selection of the students’ best work makes this one of the favorite exhibitions of the year. In addition to the student artwork, each instructor shows the creativity of their own personal work.

Larson Gallery Guild Member’s Exhibition

June 5 – 26, 2021

This annual non-juried exhibition highlights the creativity of the members of the Larson Gallery Guild. The Larson Gallery Guild consists of 360 members and in 2019, this exhibition had around 90 entries. Since Guild members can only exhibit one piece in the exhibit, members are very selective about their work and choose their best piece. What makes this exhibit special is its variety of media. Many artists use this time to explore and exhibit the result of a new process.

Out of the Woods

July 10 – August 21, 2021

This exhibit features artwork made of wood by artists John Barany, Randal Leek, Pat & Karen Miller, Bern Ilenstine, Norman Brown, Dawson & Cathy Lapsley, Jerry Johnson, and Marilyn Bergevin. The sculptural work is set among paintings by David Johansson and William Nelson.
