I fell in love with textiles in the early 1960’s when I was a weaver and macrame artist. I became discouraged with the lack of detail in my 3-dimensional fiber work and while searching for a solution I bought a book on soft fabric sculpture. The light went on, I gave up weaving and have never looked back.
I have worked mostly from photographs I have taken and then adapted using Photoshop which pushes the color pallet and amends the image. I dye most of my own fabrics and work from an exacting pattern to create a painterly piece of art. Then came months of time alone in the studio due to the Covid-19 virus. I was bored. I acquired 16 long narrow pieces of slightly used canvas which I dyed before deciding what to do with them. The results have been amazing. I have found a completely new style that is very minimalist and quick. The piece shown here called Zebras is one in that series. I have no idea where this will lead but will find out as time passes.
