2025 CWAE Juror Leo Adams

Leo Adams is one of the best-known artists in Central Washington. His art transcends categories, and though Adams is primarily a painter, both his painting and his design work have had in enormous impact on contemporary architectural style and interior design in the Pacific Northwest and beyond. Adams is known for his engagement with the colors and textures of the landscape of Central Washington. His influences have been wide-ranging, from Chinese and Japanese painting to European art and architecture; from fairytales and archetypes to the natural elements of the landscape surrounding his home, and from pattern design to modern painting’s engagement with surface, shape, and composition. Adams is a member of the Yakama Nation, and he resides in the countryside near Yakima. For many years he was represented by the Richard White Gallery (now Foster/White Gallery) in Seattle. Adams has also curated his home and used it as a pop-up gallery for yearly exhibitions featuring his work and the work of other local artists for decades. He is the subject of a 2012 book by Marquand Books and University of Washington Press titled, “Leo Adams: Art. Home”. His interior design work has been featured in Metropolitan Home, Renovation Style, Pacific Northwest, and Washington Magazines. His paintings are in public and private collections, including the Governor’s Mansion in Olympia, the Tacoma Art Museum, and the collection of MultiCare Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital. Last, but not least, his work was selected for first prize in this very exhibition in 1968.

What is New:

This year we are trying something new: we are bringing the online application form to our own website, rather than putting it on an external website, this should allow us to reduce the entry fee from $15 per work entered to $10 per work entered. Complaints from artists about the previous format and a general desire to lower the price in a time of economic uncertainty both motivated this decision. Let us know if our new format works for you!

How to Enter:

Please fill out the form at the link below, including information for each work that you want considered for the exhibition. Then, please use the paypal link to submit payment for the number of works you have entered at the rate of $10 per work entered.
