Julie Devine is a contemporary American artist. She was born in California in 1968, and moved to Washington state in 1991. Her work explores the wild visual beauty of Western and Pacific North America, celebrates its expanse, and abstracts its forms.
Julie paints from the landscape, combining gestural brushwork and knifework into a distinctive semi-abstract style. Her art communicates a spirited appreciation for the outdoors and for the tradition of painting, in particular the impressionist, post-impressionist, modernist, and abstract expressionist styles. Her approach is textured, layered, and experimental.
Julie’s paintings are collected internationally and have been exhibited in the Pacific Northwest, New York, New Mexico, and Italy. Her work can be found on permanent display at the Gates Archive at the University of Washington, the Fairmont Olympic Hotel, Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton, and the JW Marriot in Buckhead Atlanta. It is included in the Herb and Lucy Pruzen collection. Her original work is available through JDS Gallery, Seattle Art Museum (SAM) Gallery, Perry & Carlson Gallery, and Yuan Ru Gallery.
