Edward Chauncey Haines, originally from Michigan came to Yakima Valley College not only as an army veteran, but also a graduate from Art Institute of Chicago where he earned his bachelor’s and master’s degree.

He studied also at the Layton School of Art, Milwaukee, Michigan State College, Ohio State University and the University of Illinois. Edward had teaching experience in the secondary schools of Illinois, College of Puget Sound, and Director of Arts and Craft at Fort Lewis. Edward’s foreign travels included Asia and Europe. He received his first award for sculpture in the NW Craftsman Show, Best in Show award, Southwest Annual, and was a consistent exhibitor in the Northwest Annual and other local exhibitions. 

Edward curated a diversified and balanced program of eleven exhibitions during his one year at The Larson Gallery. During this time, memberships and contributions increased drastically which enabled the gallery to end that season in good financial condition and allowed for ample balance into the new season. 

Edward also encouraged furthering art education in the gallery and was the first to begin the Larson Gallery’s Permanent Collection, after gaining approval from the Guild officers. 

Edward Haines passed away May 11th, 1970 in Ellensburg, Washington.
